The regulars of a café in Meknes

In the Hamria new town, built after 1912 with avenues such as Avenue Mohammed V and Avenue Hassan II, many customers often have the same coffee at the same time. In districts such as Marjane, Bassatine or Zitoune, the corner café is often a place people come back to every day. These are exactly the customers a loyalty card has to keep.

Moulay Ismail University students are another group: they sometimes stay a long time and order little at once, but they come back often. A simple rule such as “buy 8 coffees, get the 9th free” gives them a reason to come to you rather than elsewhere.

A card that follows the Meknes seasons

Meknes has hot summers from June to September and cool winters, with highs around 15 °C in December and January. Orders change with the season, from hot coffee to cold drinks, but the card stays the same: you choose one reward, such as a free coffee or juice, and the number of stamps.

How it works at the counter or on the terrace

• The customer pays, then scans the counter QR code with the phone camera.
• They get an order number; the phone rings when you tap “Ready”. On iPhone the page must stay open, or they tap “Enable alert”.
• A stamp is added only when the order is confirmed ready. For a table of four friends, the cashier can give several stamps to one order.
• The customer keeps the card on WhatsApp or in Google Wallet. Apple Wallet is not available yet.

An example to replace with your numbers: a black coffee at 10 DH and a “buy 9, get the 10th free” card. A regular who comes five days a week fills the card in about two weeks. The free coffee costs you what it costs to make. If the card keeps them from going to the café across the street, it has done its job.

For customers who stopped coming, an automatic WhatsApp reminder can go out; they can stop messages at any time.
