Salé

Digital loyalty card in Salé for cafés, snacks and bakeries

Salé faces Rabat across the Bou Regreg, yet it keeps habits of its own: an old walled medina, large residential districts, and thousands of people who cross to the other bank for work every morning. Stampylo puts the stamp card on the customer's phone, with nothing to download. Here is what that changes for a café, snack or bakery in Salé, and what the tool does not do.

Salé, a big city on the right bank of the Bou Regreg

According to Wikipedia, Salé had close to 900,000 inhabitants in the 2014 census, which puts it among the most populated cities in the country. It belongs to the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region and is home to Rabat-Salé airport. Since 2011, the tramway has linked its districts to central Rabat, crossing the river on the Hassan II bridge.

Inside its walls, the medina keeps the Great Mosque, the Marinid madrasa and Bab Mrisa, the old gate through which boats once sailed into town. Around it, districts such as Tabriquet, Bettana, Hay Salam, Hay Karima and Sala Al Jadida run mostly on corner shops. Many Slaouis work in Rabat, so early in the morning and at the end of the day, cafés and snacks serve people in a hurry who still stick to their usual spot.

How the stamp card works in Salé

You set a plain rule such as "buy N, get 1 free" and a single reward for the whole business. No points, no tiers: customers always know where they stand.

  • After paying, the customer points the phone camera at the QR poster on the counter (A4, in Arabic, French and English).
  • The phone shows an order number for the day and how many orders are ahead.
  • As soon as the till taps "Ready", the phone rings and the stamp lands on the card at the same moment.
  • For a table of cousins or colleagues, the till chooses how many stamps the order earns.
  • Once the card is full, the reward is collected at the counter against a 6-digit code.

No stamps slipped under the counter

On a cardboard card, nothing stops a double stamp or a favour for a friend. Here, a stamp depends on an order marked ready. Every action is recorded with the link of the screen that made it, and a daily review flags days that look out of the ordinary. If needed, the QR on the screens can change every 30 seconds, so a photo of the code becomes useless.

WhatsApp, Google Wallet and reminders

One WhatsApp message is all a customer needs to keep the card, or they can add it to Google Wallet, which keeps it current on its own. Apple Wallet is not offered yet: on iPhone, the card stays on WhatsApp or in the browser.

A customer who stops coming gets an automatic WhatsApp reminder and can switch these messages off whenever they like. A birthday gift is possible, using only the day and month. Promotional offers go only to customers who opted in to marketing, one a week at most, paid for with credit packs.

Ramadan and the medina's big occasions

During Ramadan the day shifts: bakeries are busiest before ftour, while cafés and snacks fill up afterwards. The medina also holds the candle procession on the eve of the Mawlid, around the zawiya of Sidi Abdallah Ben Hassoun. The dashboard shows visits, stamps, rewards and returning customers, and a summary email lands every Monday, so you can set those special weeks against the rest.

A worked example, to redo with your prices

Example only: a café crème at 11 DH and the rule "10 coffees, the 11th free". The reward is one coffee in eleven, a little over 9% off, kept for people who come back. If you charge 9 DH or 14 DH, or would rather run a shorter card, swap in your own figures.

Questions

Do I need to buy equipment for a shop in Salé?

No. The phone or tablet already on the counter becomes the till screen. A TV can be added but stays optional. Stampylo does not plug into till software.

Does the customer have to download an app?

No. The phone camera is enough to scan, and the card lives on WhatsApp or Google Wallet.

What about a customer with no smartphone?

The till makes them a ticket in one tap and their number appears on the TV. They just have no card on a phone.

Is Stampylo already used in Salé?

This page does not say so. It shows how the tool fits a business in Salé. The free demo lets you try it with no commitment.
