Pager cost over 2 years
Restaurant pager system cost: hardware vs phone paging over 2 years
Restaurant pager system cost is more than the price on the box. You pay for the set, then for the buzzers that walk out the door, break or stop holding a charge. This page puts sourced hardware prices next to phone paging with Stampylo and gives you a 2-year worksheet for your own numbers. It also says plainly when a hardware pager is still the better choice.

Restaurant pager system cost: what the hardware sells for
Here is what a public source shows. We name the source, the date the article was last updated and the date we read it, because prices change often.
A pager set has no monthly fee. The real extra cost is how many units you lose or break each year, plus batteries and repairs. Only you know those numbers, so we do not guess them for you.
- BestReviews (bestreviews.com/best-restaurant-pagers, article updated July 2024, read on 2026-10-23): budget sets $99 to $125 with 6 to 10 pagers, mid-range $130 to $160 with at least 10 pagers, high-end $160 to $200. Prices may have changed since.
- The same BestReviews article (updated July 2024) says a set usually has 6 to 20 pagers, a charge lasts 36 to 72 hours, and indoor range is about 150 to 500 feet.
How much do restaurant pagers cost over 2 years? Use your own numbers
Write down these four numbers, then add them up for 24 months. It takes two minutes and gives you a real figure for your restaurant, not someone else's average.
- A. Price of the set you would buy (for example $99 to $200 from the BestReviews ranges above).
- B. Price of one spare pager from the same seller.
- C. How many pagers you lose or break in a month (count last month, or ask your staff).
- D. What you spend on chargers, batteries or repairs in a typical month.
- 2-year hardware total = A + (B × C × 24) + (D × 24).
- 2-year phone paging total with Stampylo = 24 × $15, or 2 × $149 on the yearly plan. No hardware to buy: you use a tablet or phone you already have, and a TV is optional.
How phone paging works with Stampylo
Stampylo is a web app. Neither you nor your customers install anything. It works in the browser on Android and iPhone.
- The customer pays, scans the QR code on the counter with the phone camera, and gets an order number for the day.
- The ticket page shows the status, how many orders are ahead, and an estimated wait based on your average preparation time.
- When the order is ready, the cashier screen (or a kitchen screen, if you choose) taps Ready. The customer's phone rings (and vibrates on Android). On iPhone it rings while the ticket page stays open on screen (see below).
- An optional TV screen shows Preparing and Ready columns, plays a chime and announces each ready number out loud in English, French or Arabic.
- A customer without a smartphone gets a ticket from the cashier in one tap, and the number shows on the TV.
- The same visit adds a stamp to a digital punch card once the order is marked Ready, for example buy 9 coffees and get the 10th free. You choose the number and the reward. A pager set gives you no loyalty at all.
When a hardware pager is still the better choice
Phone paging is not right for every venue. Check these cases before you replace restaurant pagers.
- No signal: a basement, a stadium or a food truck at a remote event. Phone paging needs internet on the customer's phone and on your screen. A pager runs on its own radio, so it buzzes while it is charged and within range, even with no internet.
- Many customers without phones, or who will not scan a QR code. The cashier ticket and the TV help, but someone still has to watch the screen.
- iPhone users who lock the screen. On iPhone, the ticket page rings only while it stays open on screen. The "Enable alert" button keeps the screen on and sounds a loud alarm, and a push notification arrives only if the customer added the page to the home screen.
- You need it tied to your POS. Stampylo has no POS integration today.
Pagers vs phone paging: what else changes
With pagers, staff hand out a buzzer, collect it, clean it and charge it. With phone paging, customers keep their own phones and can sit down instead of standing in line, and there is nothing to collect at the end of the night. You still keep your cashier tablet or phone plugged in.
Order numbers can start at 1 each day or match your register receipt numbers. An optional QR code on your screens changes every 30 seconds, so a photo of it stops working within a minute.

Questions
How much do restaurant pagers cost?
BestReviews (article updated July 2024, read on 2026-10-23) lists sets from $99 to $200. Prices may have changed since. Add lost and broken units, batteries and repairs on top.
What is a typical restaurant buzzer price per unit?
Divide the set price by the number of pagers. BestReviews' budget sets ($99 to $125 for 6 to 10, updated July 2024) work out to about $10 to $21 per pager. A single spare often costs more, so check the seller's spare price.
Does Stampylo need any hardware?
No. Any tablet or phone runs the cashier screen. A Smart TV is optional for the order board.
Does the customer's iPhone ring when the order is ready?
Only while the ticket page stays open on screen. Tapping "Enable alert" keeps the screen on and sounds a loud alarm. On Android, the phone rings and vibrates.
Can I replace restaurant pagers if some guests have no smartphone?
Yes. The cashier creates a ticket in one tap and the number shows on the TV.
Does Stampylo connect to Square or Toast?
No. There is no POS integration. Order numbers can match your register receipt if the cashier types them in.
