Create a Google My Business profile for your restaurant, café or snack in Morocco

Creating a Google My Business profile (now called Google Business Profile) for a restaurant in Morocco is free. Filling it in is quick, but verification can take several days and needs care. This guide follows Google's published rules, step by step, for a café or snack. It covers the name to use, the video verification rules and the next step: getting your first reviews.

What you need before you start

Get everything ready before you open Google. A complete profile from day one gets through verification more easily.

  • A Google account you keep. Not the account of a staff member or friend who may leave.
  • The real name of your café, exactly as written on the sign.
  • The exact address, with the neighbourhood and city, and the pin in the right place on the map.
  • A phone number that receives calls and text messages. Google says an automated phone menu (IVR) won't get the code.
  • Your opening hours and a few real photos: the front, the counter, the seating.

Create a Google My Business profile for a restaurant in Morocco, step by step

First check that your café is not already on Google Maps. A customer or a delivery rider may have added it. Search for the name and the city in Google Maps. If the profile exists and is not verified, open it and choose "Claim this business", then "Manage now". If someone else already verified it and you are authorized to manage the business, you can request ownership from the current profile owner.

If your café is not on Google yet, go to business.google.com/add and follow the screens: name, category, address, phone, and website if you have one. Pick the category closest to what you do, for example café or fast food restaurant. This is the most direct way to add a café to Google Maps in Morocco.

At the end, Google offers you a verification method. Finish it before you change anything else.

The profile name: your real name, no keywords

A mistake to avoid: writing "Café Atlas best coffee Casablanca Maarif" to rank higher. Google's rules are clear: the name must be the one you use in real life, on the shop front and your materials. Adding unnecessary information to the name could get the profile suspended (source: support.google.com/business/answer/3038177).

  • No tagline: "Snack Yasmine", not "Snack Yasmine, the taste of the old days".
  • No products or services in the name: no "tacos, juice, crêpes".
  • No neighbourhood added, unless it is part of the real name.
  • No phone number, hours or link. No words in all capitals unless your sign is written that way.
  • No symbols or legal form (SARL) unless they are on your sign.

Verification methods: Google chooses

According to Google's help page, the verification method is chosen automatically by Google and can't be changed. It depends on the business type, the region, public information and business hours. Sometimes you need more than one method.

For Morocco, we have not yet tested ourselves which methods Google offers, or how long the postcard really takes. We will update this page after a real test. Here is what Google describes (source: support.google.com/business/answer/7107242, checked on 23 October 2026).

  • Phone or text: a code is sent to the profile's number.
  • Email: you follow steps sent to an address you use.
  • Live video call: a support agent guides you, during business hours in your area.
  • Video recording: you film your business live with your phone, inside your profile, if Google offers it.
  • Postcard: a 5-digit code mailed to the address. Most arrive within 14 days and codes expire after 30 days. Don't request a new code while you wait: it cancels the one in the post.
  • Checking your verification takes up to 5 business days, rarely longer.

Google profile video verification: the rules

If Google offers you video, these are its rules. The video must show three things: where you are, that the business exists, and that you manage it (source: support.google.com/business/answer/14271705, checked on 23 October 2026).

  • At least 30 seconds, one take, no editing and no breaks.
  • Filmed live and uploaded from a phone, inside your Business Profile. Pre-recorded videos are not accepted.
  • Show where you are: street signs, the building number, nearby shops.
  • Show the business exists: the front with the name on a permanent sign. It must match the profile name.
  • Show you manage it: open the cash drawer, go into the kitchen or storeroom, or use your till.
  • Don't film other people's faces, bank account numbers, tax ID or ID card, or private information about you or others.

If Google rejects the video

Google lists the reasons under "Review issues" in your profile. Examples Google gives: name not visible on the shop front, the surrounding street not shown, no proof that you run the business. Record a full new video with everything from the first one plus the missing part. Film when the café is quiet, so you avoid customers' faces.

Next step: get your first Google reviews

According to Google, the number of reviews and ratings are part of what counts in local ranking (source: support.google.com/business/answer/7091). Reviews come from real customers, at the right moment, with a simple link. Once verified, copy your review link from your Google profile, then make a QR code with Stampylo's free generator. It runs in the browser and only makes a QR of your own Google review link. Print it and put it near the counter. Don't press customers to post the review in front of you.

You can also send the link on WhatsApp to your customers after their visit, all of them the same way, if they gave you their number. Example message in Darija: "شكرا على الزيارة ديالكم! رأيكم ف Google كيعاونّا بزاف: [link]". In English: "Thanks for your visit! Your Google review helps us a lot: [link]".

Stay within Google's rules: no discount, free drink or gift for a review, and don't ask only happy customers (source: support.google.com/contributionpolicy/answer/7400114). Google removes reviews obtained with a reward.

  • With Stampylo, the customer is invited after the visit, by push notification or on WhatsApp if you saved your Google review link.
  • The Google button shows first to every customer. A private rating, seen only by you, is offered after it.
  • At most one request every 2 months per customer. Never stamps, gifts or discounts for a review.
  • A limit to know: on iPhone, the notification only arrives if the customer added the page to the home screen.
  • Free trial of 14 days with no card, then MAD 149 per month.
